Samsung is taking no chances of another catastrophe to happen to its new flagship the Samsung Galaxy S8. The company is reportedly in talks with a Japanese manufacturer to supply batteries for their coming flagship.

Samsung would not want to prove third time is a charm for their upcoming flagship the Samsung Galaxy S8. According to a report from the Korean news site Han Kyung, Samsung is reportedly switching to the Japanese manufacturer, Murata Manufacturing. According to Reuters, Samsung Electronics Co Ltd is discussing the supply deal as reported in the Nikkei business daily.

After months of probes, Samsung determined that faulty batteries from two previous suppliers - affiliate Samsung SDI co Ltd and China's Amperex Technology Ltd, were to blame for the Note7's failure that cost the company $5.3 billion from its operating profit.

Depending on how the talks will progress, it is almost certain that Murata will take over Amperex as the new battery supplier for the Samsung Galaxy S8. The switch to a new supplier might prevent a repeat of a Samsung smartphone becoming a ticking incendiary device if it wants to regain back their customer's trust.

However, according to c|net, Murata Manufacturing acquired Sony's battery manufacturing subsidiary last year. Reportedly, Murata is rumored to be the secondary supplier behind Samsung's own Samsung SDI. The same group called out by US Consumer Product Safety Commission to have produced the first-run flawed batteries of the Note7.

Amperex Technology, for its part, acknowledged they were the supplier of the replacement batteries for the Note7, which unfortunately was also found to be prone to combustion. Samsung has also considered sourcing batteries for the Samsung Galaxy S8 from compatriot LG Chem; later reports indicate that Samsung is not expected to pursue LG Chem as a battery source for the S8.

Samsung and Murata had no comments as to the developments of the talks as of this report.
