Marvel is bringing two comic book characters to life in partnership with Freeform. The new straight-to-series live action-drama is based on Marvel's "Cloak and Dagger" and they have cast the actors to play the lead parts.

Former Disney star Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph (The Night Of) were chosen to play "Cloak and Dagger," according to Deadline. Joe Pokaski will serve as show runner for the new coming-of-age series with Gina Prince-Bythewood directing the first episode.

"Cloak and Dagger" is a story about Tandy Bowen, called Dagger, and Tyrone Johnson, called Cloak. Dagger has the powers of light while Cloak has the power of darkness. They were created by Artist Ed Hannigan and writer Bill Mantlo and serialized in Marvel comics.

Both coming from different backgrounds, they were victimized by an illicit drug chemist where they were injected with synthetic heroin with unexpected results. The two escaped their captors only to find later on that they have developed superhuman abilities.

In later versions, they were said to be mutants and the drug simply woke their latent mutant powers. "Cloak and Dagger" first appeared in "Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man" #64 in March 1982, reported LA Times. They eventually had their own comic series but not successful enough to give them a long run.

Tandy's new abilities to emit light daggers and with Tyrone's abilities to engulf anyone in darkness, they quickly learn they are better off together than apart. While the two are superheroes, it has been rumored that the new series will focus more intimately in Tandy and Tyrone's romantic relationship.

Now bolstered by the insane branding power known as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is interesting to note that the series is in the works for almost five years. Now that they have found the lead players, it might not be long before production starts over at ABC.
