Apple announced on Wednesday that its new high-end desktop, the Mac Pro, will be available to order starting Thursday, Reuters reported.

Redesigned from the inside out, the Mac Pro features the latest Intel Xeon processor, dual workstation-class GPUs and ultra-fast ECC memory.  Pricing for the pro-desktop starts at $2,999; another version of the Mac Pro costs $3,999. Custom order options are also available which will vary the prices upwards from 4,000.

"The new Mac Pro completely redefines desktop expandability," according to a press release.

Apple officials released a statement saying that the product was designed around an innovative unified thermal core. The Mac Pro receives a completely different look than previous Apple desktops with its cylinder shape.  At just 9.9 inches tall, the aluminum tower packs "unprecedented performance."

The Washington Post reported that Apple's new and unique design as a "counter to the notion that the firm is losing its innovative edge in a post-Steve Jobs era."

The tech giant highlights the product's power as its main selling point, "promoting how it could be useful for professional or semi-professional music producers, videographers and photographers in presentations about the computer," the Washington Post reported.

The product, which was designed and assembled in the United States, is an effort made by the company to bring manufacturing and assembly work back to the states.  According to the Washington Post, "Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in the U.S.A." is inscribed on each new Mac Pro device.

The computer will be available online, in Apple stores and at some authorized resellers on Dec. 19.
