"Yoake Tsugeru Lu No Uta" is coming to movie theaters in Japan on May 19 announced Director Masaaki Yuasa. The director is behind the anime adaptation works of Tomihiko Morimi's "The Tatami Galaxy" comedy novel in 2010 and Taiyo Matsumoto's "Ping Pong" sports manga in 2014. This animated film is Yuasa's first ever full-scale project.

"Yoake Tsugeru Lu No Uta" revolves around the relationship between a junior high school boy named Kai who lives by the sunny port and a mermaid girl named Lu comes from the nearby sea. "Yoake Tsugeru Lu No Uta's English title is "Lu Over The Wall" (also "Lu's Song that Announces The Break of Dawn").

The description posted in Lu No Uta, the film's official website, uses the voices of Kai. It says that Kai joined a local band called Sirene. When he went to Mumojima, the practice place, the Mermaid Lu suddenly made her appearance. This story will revolve around this plot. Their love story will encounter several down sides. More so because in ancient Japanese, mermaids are associated to calamities. These enchanted creatures are believed to attract bad luck. The exact struggle Kai and Lu will have to overcome.

Yuasa first had "Yoake Tsugeru Lu No Uta" in his mind and realized that he really wanted it to materialize. He, later on, pushed for it and motivated by his own aspiration: It is possible if you love what you have at the bottom of your heart.

Meanwhile, master-manga artist Yoko Nemu provides the original character design while Nobutake Ito will take charge of animation direction for "Yoake Tsugeru Lu No Uta", Crunchy Roll wrote. Yuasa will share screenplay credits with Reiko Yoshida while his Science SARU Company takes charge of the anime production.

"Yoake Tsugeru Lu No Uta" Soundtrack Music is composed by Takatsugu Muramatsu. The 15th track on the album is provided by singer-songwriter Kazuyoshi Saito. The "Utautai no Ballad" track was first released in 1997 and 20 years later appears again in the film.
