"The Blacklist: Redemption" starts its deviation from "The Blacklist" by being a spy show. Executive producer John Eisendrath said "Redemption" is an entirely different beast and not Blacklist 2.0, speaking at the Television Critics Association winter previews in Pasadena, Calif., Wednesday.

Eisendrath added that "The Blacklist: Redemption" stands on its own and is totally independent of "The Blacklist." He made a particular point in the coming eight episodes of the new show wherein it would make certain the establishment of that world, according to TV Guide.

Admittedly, there would be overlaps since "The Blacklist: Redemption" shares some of the same DNA of the original show. He stressed that the new show is a sexy espionage thriller whereas "The Blacklist" is much more of a cop show. Accordingly, there is an entirely different way the stories are presented.

"The Blacklist: Redemption" follows Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) as he learns details about his past and that of his military intelligence operative mother Susan "Scottie" Hargrave (Famke Janssen), who lost him when he was still a baby, according to Deadline.

"The Blacklist: Redemption" - What to expect

Viewers will be treated seeing Janssen at the forefront of "The Blacklist: Redemption." Her character as revealed in last year's backdoor pilot was exposed as Tom's mother by Raymond "Red" Reddington (James Spader), although she is still left in the dark about this fact.

One big question is how the show is going to present and resolve the seemingly sexual tension between Tom and Scottie who seems to be the only one who does not know he is her son.

The story will be even more complex with the walkabout of ruthless military contractor Howard Hargrave (Terry O'Quinn) in a recurring role-playing Tom's father. It would be interesting seeing how dynamics evolve between Tom, Scottie, and Howard unfolds in intrigue and espionage as the revolving centerpiece of "The Blacklist: Redemption."
