Apple this week announced the opening of its brand new retail store at Vanke Mall in Qibao, a popular tourist destination in Shanghai. The newly-opened Apple store, which will be Apple's seventh retail store in Shanghai, will open its store to customers on Dec.10, Saturday.

The name Qibao comes from the local temple, which means "Seven Treasures Town." It's an ancient town in the busy Shanghai's Minhang District, whose history can be traced back as far as the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period to the Northern Song Dynasty.

First introduced in 2001, Apple Store is a chain of retail stores owned and operated by the Cupertino-based Apple Inc. The store sells a wide variety of Apple-branded products, which include the Macintosh personal computers, productivity software, iPod, iPad, iPhone, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and select third-party accessories.

Additionally, all Apple store offer a Genius Bar for doing customer support and dealing with product services and troubleshooting. It also provides software support for Mac OS X and hardware service on products that are not classified obsolete. However, in some cases, the Genius Bar will attempt to assist customers with older Apple hardware.

Some Apple stores may feature a station called The Studio, where customers can meet with a "Creative teams" and receive help with projects ranging from photo managing to film editing. The largest Apple Genius Bar in the world can be found in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

According to Apple Insider, the Cupertino-based company has around 489 retail stores worldwide following the recent openings of its Zhuijang location in Guangzhou and Marché Saint-Germain location in Paris, France. This year alone, the tech giant has opened 20 new retail stores, excluding the upcoming Qibao location.

Apple is currently has around 489 retail locations worldwide and it's expected to hit the 500 figures by next year, according to MacRumors.
