Google said Android is as secure as Apple's iOS and thinks that it will even perform better in the future. This is in response to statements that if users are looking for a more secure mobile platform, then they should consider buying an iPhone.

Adrian Ludwig, Google's Android security director, said in an interview that their Android platform is as secure as the Apple iOS after delivering a talk on security at the O'Reilly Security Conference in Manhattan last Tuesday, according to Gadgets 360

"iPhone and Android are nearly identical," Ludwig said. "In the long term, the open ecosystem of Android is going to put it in a much better place."

With the continuous improvement of the whole platform, Ludwig said the Android OS can be expected to surpass the iOS in the future. Ludwig explained the misunderstood Android security at the conference, reported PhoneArena.com.  He talked about the Android's SafetyNet API, which is designed to analyze whether the device where apps were installed is tampered and scans "400 million devices per day". It checks up to 6 billion apps for potential malware threats on a daily basis.

Over the years, the iOS has been known to be a secure over other mobile platforms. It's a closed system that can be used only by Apple products. Android, on the other hand, is the most popular platform because of its flexibility and functionality. It is widely used in most mobile phones, tablets and phablets and gives users more freedom to choose.

Adrian Ludwig also pointed out the "Stagefright" bug that has affected the Android OS last year. He said that his team is looking into the real hack and acknowledged that there's still a lot to be done to improve security patching cycles and updates, which are dependent on the manufacturers and network providers.

The scans ensure that there are less than one percent of potentially harmful applications installed on Android phones, Ludwig said as reported by Android Authority.
