It was recently announced that "Voltron: Legendary Defender" Season 2 will be slated for a 2017 release date.

Fans of the series will be delighted to know that just six weeks after Season 1 episode 11, DreamWorks and Netflix announced that  "Voltron: Legendary Defender" Season 2 will return on Jan. 20, 2017. According to Premiere Date, the announcement was made in a panel session during day 2 of the New York Comic-Con, which was held on Oct. 6 - Oct. 9.

According to Gamespot, DreamWorks and Netflix revealed that the story will pick-up from where it left off in the final episode. The plot for "Voltron: Legendary Defender" Season 2 follows the Paladins across the universe after engaging Zarkon, Haggar and the Galra Empire in a fierce battle in Season 1. The Paladins must now face tough challenges in Season 2 to bring Voltron back together and to finally defeat Zarkon and save the universe.

"The Black Paladin" season finale episode found Voltron's members scattered in different parts of the universe after a brutal battle with Zarkon, separating them from the Castle of Lions, Princess Allura, and Coran. The big surprise of the episode was Zarkon revealing himself to be the original pilot or Paladin of the Black Lion.

The voice cast for "Voltron: Legendary Defender" includes Kimberly Brooks (Princess Allura), Rhys Darby (Coran), Josh Keaton (Shiro), Tyler Labine (Hunk), Jeremy Shada (Lance), Bex Taylor-Klaus (Pidge) and Steven Yeun (Keith). Other series' voice actors include Neil Kaplan (King Zarkon), Cree Summer (Haggar) and Jake Eberle (Commander Zendak)

"Voltron: Legendary Defender" was created by "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and "The Legend of Korra's" makers Lauren Montgomery and Joaquim Dos Santos as a complete reimagining of the original "Voltron." The series will be head written by Tim Hedrick.

"Voltron: Legendary Defender" will start streaming on Netflix next year.
