Five of the world's largest tech companies collaborated to steer the future on the ongoing development of artificial intelligence. The entities involved are Google along with its DeepMind subsidiary, Facebook, Amazon, IBM and Microsoft.

The coalition of the tech companies will be known as the Partnership on AI, and it will be co-chaired by Eric Horvitz (Microsoft Research chief) and Mustafa Suleyman (DeepMind co-founder).

The tech companies' partnership has two main focuses, first, it will enlighten the public about AI, especially as the technology becomes more deeply attached in people's everyday life, threatening to automate human labor as well as taking over the complex tasks such as driving vehicles, according to The Verge.

The second is making sure that some of the industry's biggest players are teaming up on artificial intelligence best practices and they will receive input from non-corporate experts. Those experts will include philosophers and ethicists, who are dedicated to complex questions regarding machine intelligence in life-threatening situations such as healthcare and transportation.

However, Apple Inc. is in talks with the group, but the Cupertino based tech company has not yet decided to join the alliance.

Microsoft engineer Horvitz stated that they have been in discussions with Apple Inc. Horvitz also said that he believes the Cupertino based tech company are enthusiastic about this effort, and Horvitz personally hope to see them join the group, Apple Insider reported.

Anyway, financial support of the Partnership on AI will be coming from the initial tech companies that are members of the alliance, but in the future, membership and involvement of the project are expected to expand. Where in the coming weeks, nonprofits, activists, as well as other stakeholders will be joining the deliberation.

As the organizational structure is designed to give the necessary opportunity for non-corporate groups, Suleyman said that they want to involve people impacted by AI as well, based on the report of Tech Crunch.
