Levi D. Canterbury, a 23-year-old national guardsman from Gallipolis, has been found guilty by an Athens County jury Thursday, on two counts of raping an intoxicated Ohio University student in September 2011.

Canterbury has been charged for deliberately engaging in sexual conduct with the student who was highly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the sexual contact and 'using force when raping the woman.'

The reported incident occurred on September 10, 2011 when Canterbury approached the drunk female victim, who was walking home alone without pants on Route 682 at about 3:00 a.m., after attending a party on Grosvenor Street.

Keller J. Blackburn, the prosecutor, said that upon finding the student lost, Canterbury offered her a ride home. Then, he drove her to a parking lot on campus and forcibly raped her (causing her to bleed) before dropping her off on campus.

Canterbury denied having sexual intercourse with the woman. However, DNA results from the underwear of the woman revealed that 'the chances of semen not being Canterbury's were 1 in 8 quintillion.'

Canterbury was accused of both the rape charges in October of 2011. The charges are first-degree felonies. In total, he faces three to eleven years in prison for two counts of rape. Once he is released from the prison, Canterbury will be asked to register as a Tier III sexual offender and will also be required to register every 90 days for the rest of his life.

Canterbury remained imprisoned without bond, pending the hearing.
