Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran's outgoing president has received approval from the country's Supreme Cultural Revolution Council (SCRC) to set up a technology university in Tehran after he leaves office Aug.4.

The 'Iranians University' will offer post-graduate programs on information technology, nanotechnology, aerospace and nuclear science. According to media reports, Ahmadinejad desires to produce a bunch of highly educated professionals in the future.

Mohammad-Hossein Yadegari, council member, said that Ahmadinejad 'wanted to have scientific activity and work in educating.'

The SCRC, led by the president of Iran, granted the license to Ahmadinejad out of sheer respect and for his consistent efforts and dedication over the past eight years.

Allowing the outgoing president to found a new university in the capital contradicts the council's existing regulations, which forbids the establishment of new universities in Tehran. However, the council has the rights to overlook such regulations.

Ahmadinejad, who was in power for eight years, said that he will continue to serve the Islamic Republic once he leaves office. His second term was marked by several altercations involving top officials. He also fell out of favor with the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Hasan Rouhani will be sworn in as the next president of Iran. Rohani was elected last month and will be endorsed by Ayatollah Khamenei on Saturday.

Along with the establishment of the university, Ahmadinejad will also be creating a 'Former President's Office' in order to maintain his presence even after Rohani starts his tenure. The office will comprise of 25 staff including a director, experts and others who will be accountable for co-ordination and communication.

Amir Mohebian, head of the Tehran-based Arya Strategic Studies Centre said that Ahmadinejad has also received permission to start several publications.

 "Ahmadinejad is seeking to put in place his team in these spots, and in this way create some type of political party and manage ... his followers," said Mohebian.
