Consumers are still waiting for the official release of Apple's MacBook Air 2016. Reports, however, claim that the tech giant might stop producing  the MacBook Air flagship and focus on the MacBook Pro istead.

There are leaks that hints details about the future devices on Apple's flagship: from the MacBook Pro to the Apple Watch.  However the update about the MacBook Air is not gaining any popularity at all. It is could be that apple is terminating the MacBook Air flagship because the device did not get proper updates in the last years, BGR reported.

In the modern lineup of laptops, the MacBook Air is being phased out slowly. The 11-inch MacBook air was already usurped by the Retina MacBook. On the other hand, The 13-inch version of the MacBook Air has inferior display as compared to a MacBook Pro with the same screen size. This means that the MacBook Air flagship needs major updates in order to compete in the computer market.

Retina MacBook devices has been defeated by the Chromebook in the US market because it has limited capabilities despite its price. The Chromebook can do almost everything that the Retina MacBook is able to do.

Since tech people are still waiting for the release of the Air model, there is still a chance that the MacBook Air will continue to live. Rumors claim that new versions of these devices will have 15-inch wide sizes while phasing out the 11-inch versions, according to Vine Report.

The 2016 MacBook Air is rumored to have a Touch ID fingerprint recognition. It will also have Siri as an additional feature and will sport be lighter and thinner compared to the current Air models. It will be eqquipped with USB-C ports, Intel Skylake processors, new batteries and cooling systems.

The Air 2016 is set for release sometime this fall              which is estimated to cost $980 for the 13-inch model while the 15-inch one would cost about $1,100.
