Looks like those waiting with bated breath for the new Surface Pro are in for a really long hold-up as new rumors hint the much-awaited fifth edition of the laptop-killing tablet from Microsoft will not make an appearance this year. What's even worse is that the same applies for the rumored Surface Book 2.

Microsoft will not take the wraps off these devices at least until July next year, however a new genre of Surface machine that will run Windows 10 operating system - which will in AIO or all-in-one form factor - is already in the works.

A slew of latest rumors from Asia indicate that an overhaul for the current Surface mobile devices is not in the offing at least this year.

The rumored upgrades dubbed, Surface Pro 5, Surface Book 2 and probably the Surface Phone will not be announced until the second half of 2017 citing the held up mass availability of the next-generation Kaby Lake chip from Intel, DigiTime reported.

Apparently, the sequel to Skylake from Intel will be not be good to go as far as whole production is concerned until late 2016 or early 2017, however the popular tech giant does not seem to mind waiting.

Basically, the release date for the next-generation Surface devices has been postponed, which also echo earlier reports that hinted the devices will hit the shelves only after Windows 10 switches to Redstone 2.

That said, a new machine will be announced to showcase the brand new features that Microsoft will unwrap alongside Windows 10 Anniversary update, which is slated to go live from August 2. Although it continues to be a part of the Surface line, it will boast a solid AIO or desktop setting.

No prizes for guessing, Microsoft is opening an avenue of new opportunities to grab the top spot in the global PC market with the Surface AIO. In the Windows environment, the Surface AIO will compete with the likes of HP and Sony and the whiz-bang Chinese tech firm Lenovo, Yibada reported.

The obvious idea behind introducing the Surface AIO is to make an impression in an Apple dominated market. The Cupertino-based tech firm is the most acclaimed maker of an AIO with its hit iMac. Microsoft has already tried to invite competition from Apple in the tablet and notebook market and this looks like a probable next step.

Besides, Microsoft is reportedly revamping the entire PC market with an all-new addition to the Surface brand.

In the wake of the Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2 release dates pushed to 2017, tech fanatics can look forward to the release date of the Surface AIO, which reports from several online tech publications claim is slated to release between July and September 2016 or after the global deployment of Windows 10 Anniversary Update.
