The Asian tiger mosquitoes, the carrier of diseases such as dengue fever and chikungunya, seem to have returned to Paris as the mosquitoes were spotted in the French capital for the second year running this summer, New York Post reports.

A visitor to the Parc Floral botanical garden in the east of Paris detected the mosquitoes. Later, the health agency and city authorities confirmed that the mosquitoes were the Asian tiger mosquitoes. The park was closed on Wednesday night for an anti-mosquito operation conducted by the authorities.

However, the authorities said that the mosquitoes had only recently been spotted in the park and were only confined to the water bodies in the park. They confirmed that the green spaces in the city were not affected by the presence of the mosquitoes.

The tiger mosquito originates from the Asian continent and was spotted for the first time in the Paris region last year. However, no case of dengue fever and chikungunya has been signaled in the Paris region to date.

Separately, two cases of dengue fever contracted through Asian tiger mosquito bites had been reported in the Gard region in the south of the country.

Over the past ten years, mosquito transmitted diseases have been on the rise in the new parts of Europe, including Greece, Italy and France.
