How to Know if Your Laptop Battery is Affected?

Last June 2016, HP has implemented product recall for 41,000 laptop batteries that were reportedly probable cause of hire and burn hazard due to overheating. These batteries are from the company's range laptops such as HP Pavilion, Compaq Presario, HP Envy and HP ProBook that were sold from March 2013 until October 2016.

Just recently, HP has announced an expansion of recall 101,000 batteries upon learning about the reported incident of the overheated batteries that causes fire and damage to property amounting to $1,000. According to Digital Trends, these batteries are referring to the one manufactured by Panasonic and compatible to the same models of HP laptops from the first recall.

Users can check if they are affected by looking through the barcodes located at the back of their respective laptops. If the barcode starts with the one of the following: 6BZLU, 6CGFK, 6CGFQ, 6CZMB, 6DEMA, 6DGAL and 6EBVA, they are advised to stop using the batteries immediately and just plug the device through the AC adapter until the new battery arrives.

How to Ask for Replacement?

The Consumer Product Commission for Safety or CPSC advises the owners to contact HP for an immediate battery replacement by calling the toll-free number of the company at ET 888-202-4320 from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. Or they can visit HP official website and start the replacement process online according to The Verge.

On the other hand, an HP spokesperson revealed that the affected laptops are equivalent to the one percent sales on the given time frame. The reports of battery overheating from HP customers are less compared to Samsung Galaxy Note 7 exploding incidents from last year.
