A new adaptation of the "Spaceship Yamato" film series is set to be released on Feb. 25, 2017. The new anime adaptation follows the successful "Space Battleship Yamato 2199."

The new adaptation, "Spaceship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love," is set three years after the first "Space Battleship Yamato 2199" series and will be serialized in a seven-part film. The plot centers around the ship "Yamato" and its crew who are called on a new mission to stop Gatlantis from spreading their evil across the universe, according to Crunchy Roll.

Alongside the release of the new adaptation "Spaceship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love," comes the introduction of a new character that will join the returning cast. Hiroshi Kamiya who played Levi in "Attack on Titan" and Nozomu Itoshiki in "Sayonara Zansubou-sensei" will be playing the role of Klaus Keyman in the upcoming films.

Keyman is an earth stationed Garmillas military officer. According to a Japanese language twitter post, Kamiya's character plays a vital role in the upcoming films. A hint is a dead giveaway in his character's name, "Keyman," which suggests he will be a "key man" in the "Spaceship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love" narrative.

According to The Asahi Shimbun, Harutoshi Fukui will pen and oversee the scripts for the "Spaceship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love" film series. Among his notable works include "Mobile Suit Gundam UC" where he penned "Aegis" and "Lorelei: The Witch of the Pacific Ocean."

The numeral "2022" specifies the new work is a direct sequel to the "Space Battleship Yamato 2199" series. The series known then as "Star Blazers" began its run in 1974, sparked a nationwide boom in Japan. "Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato" made the franchise even more popular and spawned many sequels, TV specials, and other works said the report.

After the release of "Space Battle Yamato: Resurrection" in 2009, a live-action film adaptation, "Space Battleship Yamato" was released and became a certified hit.
