College 101: Ways To Cope with Academic Pressure

By

As a college student, your life may be filled with a lot of worries about exams, thesis, projects and your future career plans. The demands of getting higher education can be overwhelming and a lot of times you would feel stressed and depressed with all of the pressure from working hard and worrying too much.

While you feel stuck in the moment of overthinking your whole college life, your goal is to make sure you remain in control of the situation, and deal with pressure by following these simple advice.

Put things in perspective

Relativisation, as Times Higher Education would put it, is one key strategy. You have to understand the value of achieving your goals in college in relation to your career goals in the future. Try to reflect if the investment and effort you are putting on goals is worth it in the end, or ask yourself if they will only be a waste of time and energy. Refocus your energy on the things that matter more so you feel less pressured and more relaxed.

Time management

This skill is something that is very important for college students to learn too, according to Prospects. Most of the time, people only feel stressed when they know that they are running out of time to get things done. What you can do is to create a schedule that you can stick to. This schedule should divide your tasks accordingly and should include breaks too.

Practice focus

Sort out your priorities and keep your eye on them. There are times when you feel tempted to veer away from your schedule but try as much as you can to stick to it then reward yourself later on. Also stay away from distraction by keeping your mobile phone away or turning it off so you can study on a quiet and calm environment. It can be quite a challenge but it will pay off in the end.
