Robert Nkemdiche Charged With Marijuana Possession (UPDATE)

By

Robert Nkemdiche was charged with marijuana possession after police found multiple rolled joints in his hotel room when investigating his falling from the room's window.

Nkemdiche fell about 15 feet from the window in his room at the Grand Hyatt Atlanta late Saturday night, according to a police report obtained by The Jackson Clarion-Ledger. When police found him, he was conscious and lying on the ground.

The Ole Miss junior defensive tackle was then taken a local hospital and was in stable condition for undisclosed injuries.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported Monday afternoon Nkemdiche was released from the hospital and taken to the Atlanta city jail. His marijuana possession charge resulted from "approximately 7 rolled marijuana cigarettes," the police report stated.

Police and medical responders arrived at the hotel around 11:20 p.m. Saturday to find Nkemdiche on the ground. The report indicated he broke the window and walked out onto a ledge before falling, ESPN reported. Officers found Nkemdiche's room to be "in complete disarray," though they did not determine why he exited the room in such a manner.

The report also noted that Nkemdiche was with "associates" when the police and medical personnel arrived at the hotel. No one knew why he fell from the ledge, or why he was on it in the first place.

"Is it undetermined why or how Mr. Nkemdiche made it over the two ledges onto the ground," the Atlanta Police said in a statement to The Constitution. "Neither Mr. Nkemdiche nor his associates would provide this information."

Last month, Robert's brother Denzel, also a football player at Ole Miss, was hospitalized for an undisclosed reason and will not play in the team's bowl game on Jan. 1. Now Robert Nkemdiche's status appears to be uncertain, either because of team punishment or any potential injury he sustained from the fall.

Either way, Robert Nkemdiche projects to be one of the best-rated NFL Draft prospects eligible to turn pro this offseason.
