The NCAA has decided to deny the University Oklahoma's request for Dorial Green-Beckham to play immediately after his transfer from the University of Missouri.

According to the Associated Press, the wide receiver must now sit out the entire season, leaving him eligible two more years of football. Rules normally require players to sit out a year when they transfer, unless the NCAA approves a waiver.

In some cases, transfer waivers are guaranteed, like when a school is found responsible of NCAA rule infractions. The University of Missouri had dismissed Green-Beckham from the football team after multiple legal incidents, so he chose to transfer to Oklahoma. The NCAA determined Green-Beckham was simply trying to "run off" of the Missouri team after they dismissed him.

"The University of Oklahoma has learned that the waiver request it entered on behalf of Dorial Green-Beckham has been denied by the NCAA," Oklahoma said in a statement Friday. "The University accepts that decision and will continue to provide the appropriate assistance to Dorial, just as it does with other students in helping him grow personally from the many opportunities available to him at OU."

Green-Beckham was charged twice with marijuana possession while at Missouri, though he pled to a lesser charge in one case and has not yet been charged with anything in the other. In another incident, a woman accused him of forcing his way into her home and pushing her down a few steps.

Joe Castiglione, Oklahoma's athletic director, defended the decision to accept Green-Beckham's transfer despite his past troubles, telling the AP "he was deserving of the chance." Green-Beckham also reportedly agreed to stringent conditions for his transfer.

At six-foot-six and 225 lbs., Green-Beckham has a rare build for a receiver and will likely be coveted in next year's NFL Draft even without playing. He proved at Missouri to be capable of making big plays and his long frame makes him a lethal red zone threat.

Oklahoma is now without two high-impact offensive players, after five-star running back recruit Joe Mixon was suspended following a misdemeanor charge of assault with "gross injury" inflicted on a fellow Oklahoma student. The AP does have the Sooners ranked fourth overall in their preseason poll and Trevor Knight, the team's QB, was named to the Heisman Trophy watch list.
