Apple has cemented rumors of an improved camera with the hiring of the person responsible for the best smartphone camera on the market.

According to Engadget, Apple hired Nokia's Senior Lumia engineer Ari Partinen. He tweeted Friday that he will start his new, unspecified job with Apple in June.

"Today will be my last day working for the amazing #Lumia family. In June I will start a new chapter in Cupertino, California. Much love!" he wrote.

When prompted by another Twitter user, Partinen confirmed he will begin working for Apple soon. "Thank you for great discussions and feedback! (And it is the company you are thinking assuming you are thinking Apple)," he wrote.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 has a 41-megapixel camera, a 4.5-inch screen and a 1280x768 screen resolution. Apple's current smartphone model, the iPhone 5S/5C, has a four-inch screen and slightly less sharp display.

Apple has not upgraded the iPhone's camera since the 4S model was given an eight-megapixel camera. The iPhone 5S did not get an increase in megapixels, but the camera was given auto image stabilization, True Tone flash and a sapphire crystal lens cover.

Microsoft absorbed Nokia, Engadget reported in late April, and it is unclear what direction the merged companies will take. Partinen was the leader of a team that developed the PureView line of Nokia phones, so whatever devices they produce, they should not suffer too much.

Despite not have the best camera on the market, Apple's iPhone has managed to be the most popular. A day before Partinen's hiring, Apple Insider reported the company filed a patent for "Super-resolution based on optical image stabilization."

The new feature would be an improved way to help users beat shaky shots without sacrificing pixels. Apple Insider also reported the company may not include this feature for the iPhone 6 and could hold onto it for future models.
