As the iPhone 6 rumor mill heats up, sales of the iPhone 5S and 5C are slowing down.

According to CNET, Apple is set to report a sales figure for current iPhone models in the second quarter. Consumers know the new smartphone is on the way and the intrigue of what it will look like is deterring many from buying a current model.

"We expect a slight pause in near-term iPhone sales due to the faster global ramp of new models in late 2013 as well as anticipation of the larger form-factor iPhone 6," Brian Marshall, a hardware and data analyst for International Strategy & Investment Group, told CNET.

Thanks to leaked photos and information, rumors have intensified in past months that Apple is going to release two smartphones side by side the second year in a row. However, these two new ones will have screen sizes of 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches, bringing Apple into "phablet" territory.

Mac Rumors fully expects there to be two different screen sizes, presumably the smaller one for a lower-end model, like last year's 5C and the larger screen for the higher-end, like the 5S. Apple may have introduced its customers to Touch ID with the 5S, but it also did not enlarge the four-inch screen of its predecessor iPhone 5.

A 5.5-inch screen for the iPhone 6 would be a jarring jump and likely has many customers on edge to see what Apple will do with such a large display. Mac Rumors also expects Apple to build the screen out of the much more durable and scratch-resistant sapphire crystals and the pixel resolution could be as high at 1,920x1,080.

BGR has learned that the 5.5-inch screen could actually be creating problems for Apple. Translating a report from Taiwan's Business Times, BGR reported Apple is struggling to develop a "significantly thinner" battery for the iPhone 6.

Such a delay could push the iPhone 6's release to 2015 even though Apple is accustomed to pushing out a new device every year. The company's Worldwide Developers Conference is coming up in June and it is unclear if they plan to unveil their new iPhone.
