Jameis Winston was in the thick of a benches-clearing brawl between the Florida and Florida State baseball teams, but he threw no punches nor did he end up ejected.

According to the Florida Times-Union, Winston had to be held back by coaches and teammates, but he was not among the three players ejected. Seminoles coach Mike Martin said brawls are just part of the game.

"There's no doubt that the testosterone and the adrenaline kicked in. Those men are very strong and very active," Martin said after the game. "The hands got a little quicker. The motivation rose. Just very proud of our baseball team, and the way that we fought. We certainly didn't back down from anything, and that makes every Seminole proud, because that's what we're about."

Martin was also referring to his team's last-inning surge. The Seminoles lost 4-1, but were trailing 3-0 in the top of the eighth inning when the brawl broke out.

Florida State leftfielder D.J. Stewart ran into Florida left hander Danny Young when trying to beat out a weak grounder down the line. Florida first baseman Zack Powers shoved Stewart and the left fielder pushed back and both teams flooded onto the field.

In the top of the ninth inning, Florida State's Jose Brizuela led off with a home run and the next batter singled before Florida brought in their closer to finish the game.

The win was the second consecutive for the Gators against the Seminoles. With one more to play April 8 between the two teams, Florida clinched the season series.

"To hold an offense like Florida State to no runs over four innings and he didn't pitch in a while? I think that's pretty darn good," Gators coach Kevin O'Sullivan said.

Florida State is currently ranked first in the nation and will likely be favored to play to deep into the postseason. Winston would love to add a College World Series title the same year as winning the BCS National Championship.
