However, Boer admitted to sending communications that were deemed inappropriate and did not align with the expected standards of conduct for the university's president.

Leadership Transition Underway

In response to the allegations against President Wiebe Boer, the Board of Trustees at Calvin University promptly initiated measures to address the situation and ensure accountability. The institution remains committed to fostering a workplace and educational environment that values the dignity and well-being of every member of its community.

Upon receiving the report of Boer's alleged misconduct, Calvin University swiftly launched an external investigation to ascertain the facts and ensure compliance with institutional policies and legal obligations, including Title IX. While Boer denied some of the accusations, he acknowledged engaging in inappropriate communication, prompting his resignation, which the Board accepted.

In light of Boer's resignation, the Board has appointed Gregory Elzinga, the current Vice President of Advancement, to serve as Interim President. Elzinga brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the university, having been deeply involved in its operations. His appointment ensures continuity of leadership while the Board conducts a comprehensive search for a permanent replacement.

Commitment to Mission Amid Transition

As Calvin University navigates this period of transition, its commitment to its mission remains unwavering. The institution is dedicated to equipping students to engage deeply, act justly, and live purposefully as agents of renewal in the world.

While the departure of President Wiebe Boer marks a significant change in leadership, the Board of Trustees and the university community are steadfast in their resolve to uphold Calvin's values and advance its mission of academic excellence and service.

The Board reaffirms its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the highest ethical standards in all its actions. Moving forward, Calvin University remains focused on providing a supportive and inclusive environment where all members of its community can thrive academically, professionally, and personally.

Plans for Future Leadership

In the wake of President Boer's resignation, Calvin University's Board of Trustees has outlined plans for selecting a permanent successor. The board will convene a search committee composed of various stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community leaders.

The search committee will undertake a thorough and transparent process to identify candidates who demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities, a deep commitment to the university's mission, and a clear vision for its future. The board aims to appoint a new president who will inspire confidence, foster innovation, and lead Calvin University to new heights of academic excellence and institutional impact.

While the search for a permanent president is underway, Interim President Gregory Elzinga will continue to provide stable and effective leadership, ensuring that the university remains focused on its core mission and strategic priorities. The board is confident that under Elzinga's stewardship, Calvin University will continue to thrive and fulfill its vital role in higher education and Christian scholarship.
