An anonymous quote, "Beautiful body Requires Commitment Not a Miracle," resonates with the age-old wisdom of nurturing ourselves.

Yet ironically, we tend to ignore the sound advice and indulge in unhealthy lifestyles paired with internal and external factors that take a toll on our bodies and physical appearances like hair loss, skin cancer, acne, psoriasis, and other ailments, which result in mental stress, lack of self-esteem, and confidence. 

Owing to the increase in the number of skin-related illnesses, there is a  high demand for medical professionals in Dermatology, defined as the medical practice of treating diseases and disorders of the skin, nails, and hair, which have opened up.  

The sky is the limit 

There are Job opportunities worldwide offered by government and private health facilities for early practitioners due to the increase in the skin, hair, and nail-related diseases, and with time you can be the head of the department leading a team of medical interns under you.

With additional expertise and networking, you can start your practice by partnering with other medical experts in the same field to open a private clinic or a health center later in your career.

Someone who doesn't wish to practice can easily opt for a teaching career in a private or government medical institute of their choice and pass on the knowledge to the future students of medicine who are inclined to specialize in dermatology. 

Choose your path to success 

There are four main fields that a medical student can decide to opt for while starting their career as a professional dermatologist. Let us discuss them one by one.

• Dermatopathology - As the name suggests, this study amalgamates dermatology and pathology together. This branch is primarily used to diagnose diseases in early and advanced stages by thoroughly examining the skin, hair, nails, etc., in the pathological lab.

• Pediatric Dermatology - Unlike adults, children's skin is far more sensitive and prone to specific bacterial/fungal infections and diseases demanding appropriate care and cure. This branch of medicine provides treatment for age-specific skin ailments.

• Dermatologic Surgery - From mild skin disorders like birthmarks and moles to advanced skin illnesses, such as skin cancer, severe burns, malignant tumors, can only be treated with the help of a specialized skin surgeon.

• Cosmetic Surgery- As individuals become more aware of their bodies and looks, cosmetic surgeon offers procedures and treatments to repair the skin damage in the form of skin tightening, wrinkle-smoothing, cellulite removal, unwanted hair removal, etc. The focus is on minimally invasive treatment as per the patient's desire.

So, as a practicing dermatologist, one can choose the specialized branch based on their interest and expertise
