Beards have become a trend with more and more men wanting to achieve that perfect mane of hair around their face. However, it's more than just genetics and in order to keep your beard thick and flowing, you need to put a significant amount of time and effort into the endeavor. 

The time and effort has more to do with adhering to a fixed routine. All you really need are three key ingredients; the right cleansers, a beard thickener, and a comb. Combine these three in a fixed routine and you'll have a beard good enough to rival even Dumbledore.

HYGIENE IS KEY

You need to shampoo your beard and keep it clean. Other than the fact that it's good hygiene, keeping your beard clean will also promote healthy growth. However, you can't use any regular shampoo or conditioner. There are specialized shampoos and conditioners for beards that will keep your beard clean, the skin healthy, and will promote thick hair growth.

You'll also find cleansers that are 100% organic if you want to avoid using anything with synthetic chemicals. You should invest in a good soap or shampoo and also a bottle of conditioner. Don't use these products everyday as over-cleaning can lead to brittle hair and increased split ends and curls.

After showering or cleaning your beard, be sure to use a soft towel to pat your beard dry. If you rub your beard, even with a soft towel, you'll end up with knots, curls, and split ends. 

USE OIL OR BEARD BALM

In addition to keeping your beard clean, you also need to use some sort of product to thicken your beard. A beard with thin hair will always be brittle and prone to breakage. There are so many choices in the market that you'll be surprised. You can go the traditional route and use oil. Both coconut oil and cedarwood oil have been known to work great for beard hair. While oil does have a great effect, it's mostly temporary and will have an effect on the root of the hair more than the hair itself.

You can try going for a beard balm or beard thickener cream in this regard. These products will keep your beard soft and will also add more body to your hair, leading to a thicker and fuller beard.

USE A COMB

Now that we have the products covered, we can move on to the heavy lifting. A comb will go a long way in ensuring that your beard stays smooth and flowing throughout the day. Buy something small so it's easy to carry around. A small cedar wood comb would be great as its light and the soft wood would also be easier on the skin.

If your beard is naturally prone to being wild, curly, and tangled, then you might want to consider a heated beard comb. Using the same mechanism as a hair straightener, you can use the comb to straighten your beard and then proceed to using the beard balm or beard thickener cream. You can then use the wood comb to keep your beard in shape throughout the day.
