 MATHEMATICS & ART

It is a very hard task as a Math teacher to make your students participate in every lesson. That is the reason why once in a while you need to give them a break. You can combine teaching math with art. It's such an amazing idea, right? But you will surely ask, wont it make the lesson harder to understand? My dear, using art in math will improve the retention of the main concepts and terminologies in mathematics. When you try it you can tell that the idea is totally unique and boundless.

Many students are gifted, but it is not enough that they are born with talent. You need to nurture them and let them discover themselves to unlock their own capabilities. You can make them feel included while singing a song about math together. You can also allow them find a new buddy by means of group activities.

WHEN AND HOW TO INCLUDE ART IN MATH

Nursery, kindergarten, and lower elementary really appreciates artistic activities. It is like playing while learning. Upper elementary and middle school math instructors should also let their students do an amazing art while learning math

.

SAMPLE MATH ART

Geometry

Many students just hate hearing geometry. Don't overthrow lessons to them. Include art especially for lower grades. Don't let them feel that math class is a burden. Let them appreciate the importance of lines, shapes, etc. Try assigning the HIDDEN SHAPES or FINDING THE HIDDEN SHAPES art projects.

Let them draw different shapes or color them.

Fraction

In reality many this is just part of a whole. Let your students learn some fraction as early as now. It would be fun I assure you!

MIX AND MATCH

(Ask them questions like ½ of Yellow + ½ of Blue = Green)

How about Geography plus Art?

Just like how art benefits math, it also a perfect match for geographic study. The student wondering what else the earth and its countries can offer will be overwhelmed and will surely get excited with these amazing activities! Let them love the subject geography.

SAMPLE GEOGRAPHY ART

Let them make a world map using styropor ball and color the areas, lands and countries projecting the following: Then let them discus some parts of it.

You can never imagine how art can change the way your students take hard subjects like mathematics and geometry. As a teacher you can experiment multiple things just for the sake of the children and their education. By doing these simple activities you are not only teaching them a lesson, but you might be actually molding a future artist.
