Everyone knows exactly what they want to be for Halloween - but most of us seldom follow through with it. Creating a massive cosplay-worthy costume may sound like fun until you actually have to do the work. In the end, it just seems easier to buy that basic witch outfit and look like everyone else.

Well, it's time to change that cycle. This year, you can DIY your way to a fun and memorable Halloween costume. Forget spending a mini-fortune on fake blood and fangs. Check out ten last-minute costume ideas below.

• Bat Costume

Repurpose an old umbrella by cutting the fabric in half and gluing it onto an old, black hoodie. Black jeans, dark nail polish, and cardboard bat ears will complete your look. You can reuse last year's vampire fangs here, too.

• Holly Golightly

Wonder Woman isn't the only star. You can go as the classic movie icon from Breakfast at Tiffany's. All you need is a black dress, sunglasses, and a sleek chignon.

• Ghostwriter

Halloween is the season for puns, too. Just paint your face white for that ghastly look, wear your most tattered clothes, and bring your pen and paper with you.

• Mean Girls

You and your friends can spend a night in Regina George's shoes. Bring out your pink, 90's girly girl miniskirts and cardigans for that naturally plastic look.

• Old Married Couple

Just because it's Halloween doesn't mean you can't go Valentine's day style. Dress up with your special someone in your grandparents' old clothes and wear some old-fashioned glasses. You can even bring a cane with you if you like.

• Belle from Beauty and the Beast

A blue dress, an apron, some books, and a hand mirror are all you need. You can have someone dress up as your Beast, or better yet, you can bring a furry friend to play the part.

• Self-Absorbed

Sometimes, the best costumes are the no-brainers. Just grab some sponges, cut them in half, and glue them to a shirt. Don't be surprised, though, if no one will want to start a conversation with you.

• Tourists

This might not be for people living in cooler regions, but if it's still a bit warm where you live you can whip out that Hawaiian top and beach shorts combo. With your favorite flip flops, sunglasses, and a wide hat, you're sure to stand out from the wave of zombies. Don't forget to bring a large camera to take everyone's photos with.

• Copycat

Take an old t-shirt and glue the word "copy" on it. Next, cut out some cat ears from a piece of cardboard and stick them onto a black headband. Feel free to add a tail if you're feeling artistic.

• Shaggy from Scooby Doo

A green shirt, baggy pants, and a wispy beard. Effortlessly groovy.

With a bit of creativity, anyone can make a great Halloween costume. Even if you're in a pinch, you can buy what you need at your local hardware or auto parts store. Spray paint, duct tape, and a hot glue gun may be all the tools you need to make an amazing outfit.
