Robocop was one of the most popular sci-fi action movies because it shows what the future might look like. At the same time, it also showed how a machine cop can save the lives of police officers by taking their place in dangerous missions. That future depicted in Hollywood is already here as Dubai recently launched the first real Robocop.

The Robocop, which was customized by Pal Robotics, is a service robot that will be placed on duty in malls and tourist attractions in Dubai. People can interact with it using the touchscreen found on its chest which they can also use to report crimes, get information, or pay fines.

A short video below shows the Robocop greeting people in the mall with a salute. It even encourages people to take a selfie with him which delighted a lot of people.

According to Brig. Khalid Al Razooqi, director general of smart services of the Dubai Police, the Robocop will allow people reach the police 24/7 without having to go to a police station or customer service. More so, this robot police officer will always be there because it doesn't have to take sick or maternity leaves.

This android police officer has a built-in camera that will stream videos and photos back to the police command center. However, the next batch of Robocops will be more sophisticated and have more features that will enable them to fight crimes. If that doesn't sound awesome enough, the Dubai Police is also planning to add a three-meter tall robot that can be controlled by a police officer inside. The said robot will be able to travel at the speed of 80 kilometers per hour and can carry heavy equipment.

Al Razooqi added that the Dubai Police plans to add more Robocops by 2030 until they make up 25 percent of the force. By doing so, human police officers can focus more on other things.
