The Zelda franchise of Nintendo company has been on nearly every Nintendo gaming system since the tech giant's inception. Now, the tech company is planning to launch "The Legend of Zelda" mobile game, bringing the high-fantasy action-adventure video game for smartphones.

"The Legend of Zelda" series could soon be heading to a person's smartphone. The Japanese tech titan is developing a new entry for the action-adventure video game that will be for smartphones, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Few details are available about the smartphone entry of "The Legend of Zelda," but the Zelda mobile game is slated to roll out in the second half of 2017 alongside the tech company's life simulation video game, "Animal Crossing." Both release dates are still undetermined for both smartphone titles.

Nintendo hasn't confirmed what format the "The Legend of Zelda" mobile game might take when it arrive in the smartphones. The mobile game could make a way of dealing with its monetization. For instance, the "Super Mario Run" video game had a $10 fee to unlock all of the game's levels. Thus, whatever the tech company has planned for the Zelda mobile game, game enthusiasts should have a better idea of it later this year.

Nonetheless, while the tech company has developed video games exclusively for its own products, the tech giant's recent smartphone entry reflects changing attitudes for its video games. Nintendo has claimed its views of these mobile games as an extension to reach new game enthusiasts who will hopefully be converted into Nintendo Switch users down the road, CNBC reported.

That being the case, the Zelda franchise has been successful in the U.S. Wherein, "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" has been outselling the tech giant's popular new game console. About 925,000 copies of Zelda for Nintendo Switch were sold in March, while 906,000 Nintendo Switch consoles were sold in the same month.
