As the saying goes, learning is a never-ending process. A person never stops learning, even when he is growing old, and a new has just proven that it is true. When people age, their brains will no longer work the same way they did before, and it will not be as sharp as they once were. It will be much more difficult for people to remember things and that is why many people believe it is impossible to learn new things and skills when they have gone past a certain age.

However, a new study by University of California - Riverside says it does not have to be like that. UCR psychology professor Rachel Wu said that there are things that people can do in order to experience healthy cognitive aging and that is by adapting to new learning strategies and habits, Science Daily reported. She said that there are habits that can encourage and discourage cognitive development.

Wu explained that in a person's lifespan, he goes through broad learning because that is when a person learns everything from infancy or childhood. Then he moves to specialized learning which means that he becomes an expert in a specific field or area. So her theory is that if people, when they become adults, still adapt or embrace broad learning and still try to learn like a child, chances are there will be an improvement in their cognitive health, instead of experiencing a decline, according to EurekAlert.

Wu said that they are yet to test their theory but also emphasized that this is based on 50 years of research. The message she wants to leave is that people can learn at any age and that it is possible to never stop learning. Many skills can still be learned even when a person is already aging, it will only have to take time and dedication.
