The NFL Draft scouting combine is about a week away, but scouts may have to wait more than a month to watch Johnny Manziel throw a football in a pre-draft workout.

The Houston Chronicle's John McClain reported via Twitter that Manziel will not throw at the Texas A&M Aggies' pro day on March 5, but has scheduled a private workout for March 27. The private workout, not uncommon for top QB prospects, will be on A&M's campus and will allow Manziel to throw to familiar receivers.

According to CBS Sports, Manziel may still throw the pigskin at the scouting combine in Indianapolis, which begins later this month. QBs are slated to perform skill drills and other workouts on Feb. 23. If he does not throw in Indianapolis, Manziel can still perform various speed, strength and other skill drills.

CBS Sports has Manziel ranked as their third overall QB prospect to UCF's Blake Bortles and Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater. In a recent mock draft, they predicted the Houston Texans would take Bortles, while the Cleveland Browns selected Manziel and Bridgewater ended up with the Oakland Raiders.

ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. has placed Manziel going to the Texans first overall in two straight mock drafts, while Todd McShay's latest prediction put Manziel with the Raiders.

Manziel has been working with passing guru George Whitfield Jr., who has also been privately coaching Baylor's Bryce Petty and Rice's Nate German. Manziel makes for an interesting prospect in the NFL, which has seen several teams adopt a college-style read-option.

Manziel uses speed and agility to keep plays alive and also ran an effective read-option with the Aggies. From his freshman year to sophomore year, he also improved his passing ability from within the pocket, an area of concern for some evaluators.

Manziel's work with Whitfield is reportedly to develop better passing mechanics, which could help him throw with more velocity and accuracy.
