San Jose State University officials have initiated an investigation into the death of 18-year-old freshman student.

Brenden Tiggs, who was studying kinesiology at the school, was found dead in his dorm room Sunday afternoon. The campus police approached Tiggs' room on the fourth floor of Joe West Hall after friends reported him missing.

The cause of his death is yet to be determined by the coroner's office. The campus community allege that Triggs might have taken his own life.

Rachol West, a San Jose State freshman, said that Tiggs didn't get selected for San Jose State's football team.

"Some people say maybe it was the football. Some people say maybe his girlfriend may have broken up with him, but one thing that was scary was that on his Instagram account, the last thing he posted 22 hours before was a bottle of alcohol," said West, KTUV reports.

The community remembered Tiggs as young, well-liked teenager with a big smile who always tried to cheer up friends and strangers.

"He was one of the sweetest people I've ever met," said SJSU freshman Lorna Tuufuli. "He was protective of his friends, but just such a good, happy guy," Mercury News reports.

Tigg's girlfriend was shocked and surprised to learn about his death. "He was always so happy and I love you Brenden. I will always love you."

Tiggs, who was 6'4" tall, is survived by his parents and a 13-year-old sister. His father Gary Tiggs said that his family was shattered upon hearing his son's sudden death. Gary said that his son's fared well at school and he loved helping people. He aspired to become a physical therapist.

Tiggs graduated from St. Ignatius College Preparatory School, San Francisco, last spring. He was a part of the football team.
