The battle on patent infringement between Samsung Electronics and Huawei has finally ended when Chinese Court declares the latter as the winner that requires the former to pay $11.6M worth of damages for copying 20 devices. However, Huawei's victory is reportedly tampered and the company is facing sales ban in UK.

Patent Infringement Battle

After patent dispute with Apple, Samsung has faced another patent infringement from the Chinese tech firm Huawei Technologies. The two are reportedly suing each other in other courts since May of 2016 until Chinese Court in Quanzhou has ordered the South Korean tech firm to pay 80M yuan ($11.6M) to Huawei, Droid Report reported.

Huawei's spokesperson reveal that the company has noted the court's decision alongside the statement that respecting and protecting others intellectual property is the key towards a collective return of investments on Research and Development. On the other hand, Samsung's spokesperson said the company will review the court's decision and claims that Samsung is a pioneer in mobile technologies innovation.

The patent infringement complaint made by Huawei refers to 20 Samsung devices that include two flagships (Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge) and tablets. The Chinese tech firm's lawsuit also includes Commercialized User Interface like widgets design and apps arrangement.

Huawei is a Patent Troll

Unwired Planet, a US Nevada-based company has called Huawei a patent troll for copying the 4G patent. The High Court of England and Wales rules out that the Chines Tech firm should pay the US firm or face local sales ban in the United Kingdom, BBC reported.

This report has tarnished Huawei's claim of victory over Samsung in which its win is considered as tampered. But the Chinese tech firm believes that the trial will not affect their current standing in the international market where they are declared as the third best-selling smartphones in 2016, following Samsung and Apple.
