Ryzen 5 is AMD's biggest unveiling this month and the mainstream processor is expected to take on Core i5. However, more details have revealed that the chip could actually win the hearts of Intel users as it could reportedly beat the Core i7 7700k performance.

Ryzen 5 Overclocked

As a mid-ranger, AMD Ryzen 5 seems to pack more punches than it should. The recent unveiling of the CPU finds out that it can be overclocked to precisely, 3.975 GHz. This is the latest update after numbers of benchmark scores leaked online.

It was initially published by a PC hardware online reviewer who bought AMD Ryzen 5 1600 and 1400 chips and was curious to find out just how much they could overclock. However, it is worth noting that after the 1600 series surpasses 3.8 GHz, the processor gets hot very quickly, Hardocp reported.

AMD's Mid-Range Chip to Debut Soon

Ryzen 5's April 11 debut follows the launch of AMD's most premium chip, Ryzen 7 last month. The card has not arrived yet but the leaks have been detailing a lot of information about the processor. A Spanish reviewer, Elchapusaz for instance, previously noted that Ryzen 5 1600 slightly performed better than Core i7 7700k CPU in a test. What makes it even more appealing to the enthusiasts, is that AMD sells the chip for a cheaper price.

It may be too early to conclude if Ryzen 5 is relatively better than Core i7, but the benchmark results suggest Intel might face a tough competition from AMD's six-core and 12 threads CPU, WccFtech reported.

With the recent report hints at a stable overclock, AMD's upcoming chipset might not need the effort to beat the Core i7 since it already has. Intel is facing a huge challenge with AMD bringing more affordable processors for the mainstream market.

AMD releases three mainstream processor series to compete head-to-head with Intel Core chips. Ryzen 7 will have a match with Core i7; Ryzen 5 will meet its biggest rival, Core i5; and the Ryzen 3 that is expected to take on Core i3, at a later date this year.
