This year, the tech community is witnessing a raging battle between two premium smartphones, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S8. While the former continues to prove its excellence, the latter is struggling to prove its worth despite the innovation it offers.

If there's one word that best describes Samsung Galaxy S7, exceptional could be the right one. Although Galaxy S8 offers more innovation and revolutionary features, reports suggest that an upgrade is not really necessary most especially when someone owns an S7.

In a nutshell, Galaxy S8 has not become successful in dethroning its predecessor because of the following reasons. First, S7 display resolution of 1080 pixels contributes to longer battery life most especially with Android 7.0 Nougat, while the S8's screen is found to be a power hungry, Forbes reported.

Second, since Galaxy S8 is bigger and heavier, Galaxy S7 is still considered as pocket-friendly. Furthermore, the S8 lost physical home button is replaced with on-screen navigation buttons are confusing not to mention the annoying fingerprint sensor located wrongly at the rear camera.

Iris and facial scanner are added to the annoying features of Galaxy S8. Although the two are fast and accurate, the user need to point out the sensor at the face every time they want to unlock the phone so to assure more security.

And because of the naturally impressive camera specs of Galaxy S7, Samsung has reportedly re-fit them to Galaxy S8. The impressive camera specs include 12MP, f/1.7 aperture shooter with OIS or optical image stabilization and 4K video recording.

Aside from the camera specs, other features copied by Galaxy S8 from Galaxy S7 is the dust and water resistance which allows the device to be submerged into water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. Hardware-wise, S8 also supports microSD cards up to 256GB but adopts USB Type-C ports which replace traditional ports of S7, Value Walk reported.
