Microsoft is expected to share new details about its next-gen game console, Xbox Project Scorpio, this coming E3 event on June. While not much information has been revealed about the console's release date, a lot of reports about the console's new features have been hitting the web for quite some time now. But the most controversial is the console's price tag.

According to the gaming focused site SegmentNext, Xbox Project Scorpio is expected to arrive in the market with a starting price tag as high as $400. But this has no longer come as a big surprise for everyone, this is already expected. The Scorpio's extreme processing power along with its exciting features are the main reasons why it deserves a special treatment of being a premium device with a premium price tag.

Early reports about the Scorpio's specs indicated that the upcoming game console would offer up a 6 teraflop GPU along with support for 4K gaming and Virtual Reality technology. Then, there's even more frightening news coming from the Xbox Project Scorpio. The latest specs reports said that the next-gen console will support HEVC and VP9 video compression standards, which allows the console to encode and even stream things such as Netflix.

Additionally, the console will also feature the HEVC for encoding 2160p, 60 frame-per-second (FPS) video for doing Game DVR and streaming. If those newly released specs are true then the Xbox Project Scorpio will be the first ever game console that's capable of both native streaming and recording in 4K. In comparison, Microsoft's Xbox One S, the company's current most powerful game console, can only record and stream gaming/video in 720p resolution at 30fps only.

These latest and additional specs for the next gen Xbox Project Scorpio aren't exactly revolutionary for a game console. However, these latest specs indicate that the device should treat as a premium device that deserves to sell at much higher than previous game consoles. And if the Xbox Project Scorpio can really perform well with its 4K gaming/video experience, then the hefty price tag would be fairly justified for now.

Meanwhile, Matthew Byrd of HD-Report made a huge comment recently, saying that if the Xbox Project Scorpio is really capable of native 4K experience and comes with serious video chops, then the crowd should expect a price tag above the $400 price range.

Gaming specialist store Gamestop has also made some good comments about the console, confirming that the Xbox Project Scorpio has a lot of potentials. However, Gamestop declined to talk more about the console's specs and features.

In other Scorpio-related news, Microsoft is reportedly readying for the big reveal later this year. A product page for Xbox Project Scorpio has just appeared on the Microsoft Store. Interestingly, the product page does not show a release date and starting price, instead, it lists some already reported specs and features. However, the product page won't make any preorder yet.
