Apple and Samsung are expected to launch OLED display phones this year and reports have already hinted at shortage supplies for other brands.

The news was initially spilled by reputable media outlet, DigiTimes, which stated that Apple already opted for 75 million units of OLED panels from Samsung Electronics. It's also reported that Samsung will be using its 56 percent of the annual output for its 2017 flagships.

This means, both iPhone 8 and Galaxy S8 will dominate the OLED smartphone market this year, 9to5Mac wrote. Apple will reportedly use such panel only for iPhone 8 high-end model, unlike Samsung which will equip its Galaxy S8 and S8+ with the curved OLED display. Oppo and Vivo have been planning to release OLED flagships to counter both premium handsets but there's not much details to dig about the specifications.

iPhone 8 premium model is said to cost more than $1000 per unit. This is currently a rumor as no source could legitimate the claim. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S8 smartphones will be using a Snapdragon 835 chipset and 3,000 mAh battery capacity the least.

Samsung is said to follow Apple's path in releasing a smartphone with dual-lens module, like the iPhone 7 Plus. However, there's no detail to suggest which model will get the setup. While Galaxy S8 will focus on VR features, the iPhone 8 might be getting AR capability instead.

Samsung Galaxy S8 will run on Android Nougat whilst the iPhone 8 is expected with iOS 11. Apple will equip its next-gen iPhone with a powerful A11 chipset. However, a recent benchmark score shows how the 835 series beats A10 in term of graphics sub-system, according to Motley Fool. But the iPhone has a better performance each year and it's expected to regain more this year.

Nonetheless, this year will see a fierce competition between Apple and Samsung flagships that has reportedly caused a global strain of OLED panel supplies.
