Microsoft ended the Surface Pro 4 sales in January and it's probably time for a refresh. The fourth-gen hybrid has earned positive feedbacks although it comes with battery drain issue, according to PC Advisor. This could be a good sign of a successor debut. It is possible that Microsoft will launch the Surface Pro 5 with better battery and yet, bringing more power to the device soon.

Intel Cannonlake has been rumored to feature in the next Surface device. The chip uses 10nm architecture and is set for 2H 2017 release, KnowYourMobile reported. Cannonlake will bring a much higher performance to Surface Pro 5 as it is said to feature 4K display.

However, the display will not be the only model that Microsoft will offer. Familiar sources claimed that there will be 2K display variant in the making. That being the case, the tablet may vary in RAM and storage with the top tier sporting 16 gigs.

The Surface Pro 5 will run on Windows 10 and come equipped with USB type C port plus a magnetic stylus that comes with rechargeable feature. The new Surface Pen will have a better pressure sensitivity and enable users to charge it via USB so they could continue the work. As for the price, reports claim that there won't be any big change from the previous series.

Microsoft was expected to launch the Surface Pro 4 successor at MWC 2017 but that didn't happen. The plausible release date for Surface Pro 5 would be in Q3 2017 since Cannonlake won't be ready till second half of this year.
