Red Hat, one of the world's leading provider of open source solutions, this week announced the general availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.9 (RHEL 6.9), providing users with more improved platform security and reliability chops for mission-critical workloads. As mentioned on Red Hat official website, the RHEL 6 enters Production Phase 3 on May 10, 2017. This means that subsequent updates to the RHEL6 will be limited to critical security fixes and business-impacting urgent issues only, but it still is supported until at least November of 2020. Support life for RHEL 6 may still be extended onward with extended life-cycle support, check out the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Life Cycle page for more information about support.

In addition, the open source provider has also simplified the upgrade to RHEL 7, by providing instructional materials and the Preupgrade Assistant and Red Hat Upgrade Tool. RHEL 6.9 is currently available to all customers with an active RHEL subscription via the Red Hat Customer Portal.
