Google has decided to discontinue their Chromebook Pixel laptops and revealed their plans to focus on smartphones and tablets from 2017 and beyond. For this reason, netizens speculate that this year's biggest unveiling could be the Pixel 2 and Nexus 7.

It may seem like PCs and laptops are not Google's field of expertise thus, many have speculated that its main reason why the search giant decided to discontinue the Chromebook Pixel laptop series. During the announcement of the laptop's early demise, top executive from Google admitted that the company's resources will be focused on making more revolutionary smartphones and tablets from 2017 and beyond, Express reported.

For this reason, the loyal Android fans' attentions are focused on the most anticipated Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones as well as the long-rumored Nexus 7 tablet which was previously thought to be rebranded as Pixel 7. The two devices are expected to be unveiled during the Google I/O event in May or on October.

The Truth About Pixel 2 Smartphones and Nexus 7 Tablet

There are many things that could tell about the upcoming Pixel 2 but latest leaks which come from Google suggest about the real deal on the new device. Google is fond of naming their phones after fishes and this year's Pixel phones are called Walleye (Pixel 2), Muskie (Pixel 2 XL) and Taimen (Pixel 2 XXL).

Accordingly, the codenames speaks a lot about the sizes of the phones and there is a possibility that "Taimen" could be the ideal competitor of Galaxy S8 when it comes to size. According to Forbes, another possibility suggests that Google could enter the tablet arena again through the third Pixel.

To recall, the market has rejected the 8.9-inch Nexus 9 in 2014 and the 10.2-inch Pixel C hybrid was poorly received in 2015. Another wild speculation suggest that Taimen could be the long-rumored Nexus 7 tablet (2017) and not the Pixel 7 tablet everyone is expecting.
