Early this week, speculations hit the web that Google is working on three smartphones with fish-based codenames. One of the phones is reportedly not Pixel based.

Droid Life broke the news that according to its sources, confirmed that Google is working on "Muskie" and "Walleye." Apparently, its sources also disclosed that Google is working on a third phone codenamed "Taimen." A quick Google search will tell you that Taimen is the world's largest salmonid.

If this rumor were to be believed, it would be safe to assume that Muskie and Walleye could be the successors to Pixel and Pixel XL. According to Android Pit, Pixel Boss Rick Osterloh confirmed that the company is indeed working on the next iteration of the Pixel.

That means customers can expect Google to come out with a Pixel 2 and a Pixel 2 XL, which can be correlated with the leaked codenames Muskie and Walleye, with Walleye reportedly the smaller phone of the two, according to Digital Trends.

It makes perfect sense then that Pixel 2 could be Walleye and that Pixel 2 XL could be Muskie, based on the size of the phones and the fishes. However, a third device codenamed Taimen is mentioned which does not belong to the Pixel category.

By definition, the Taimen salmonid is bigger in size than the two fish mentioned earlier. This could mean the third phone is the biggest of the three. How big could it remain to be seen.

However, big as it may be rumored, sources say that it will not be big enough to be classified other than a smartphone. To cite another aquatic related codenamed smartphone from the company, the 6-inch Motorola made Nexus 6 was codenamed "Shamu."

There were suggestions that Taimen might be a separate phone from Walleye and Muskie, or to put it plainly, it will not be a Pixel phone. The Mountain View search giant is mum on further details as of the moment. See a concept render of Pixel 2 in the video below.
