The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy Note 8 are the highly anticipated phones from the tech giant this year. However, it looks like these handsets aren't the only ones that 2017 will welcome, but also the successor to the 2015 Samsung Z3.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently certified the Samsung Z4 with the model number SM-Z400F. Not much has been known yet, but the phone is confirmed to have a dual-SIM capacity and a 2,050 mAh battery. Its measurements are at 132.9 x 69.2 mm.

The most notable thing about the Samsung Z4 is its Tizen 3.0 operating system. The phone's predecessor, the Samsung Z3, runs using Tizen 2.3.

Tizen is in some ways similar to Android. The former is open-source, meaning hardware manufacturers can tweak its interface and the UI and make it look as unique as they can.

Despite this, users will not have a hard time maneuvering through the OS because it still comes with multitasking options and power saving that's already seen in Samsung phones. It even appears the same, but Tizen 2.3 displays blue as its primary color.

Tizen is based on HTML5 that introduces native support for videos and makes web apps on phones and tablets run faster. With Tizen, watching YouTube videos or listening to songs is easier because you are not required to download any plug-ins for those tasks.

In 2014, it was reported that Tizen will be used by Samsung on low-end and mid-range smartphones. There were beliefs that Samsung is keeping Tizen in its back pocket in case its Android partnership with Google falls through the cracks, but the tech giant will reportedly use the OS to challenge Android One and Chinese and Indian manufacturers that sell $100 smartphones, GSM Arena reported.

The 5-inch Samsung Z3 (retailing at $188) has a Super AMOLED display with a 720 x 1280 resolution. Running under its hood is the Spreadtrum SC7730 SoC carrying a quad-core 1.3GHz CPU paired with the Mali-400 GPU. Assisting the chipset is 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage.

The phone's Ultra Data Saving Mode helps compress and save up to 40 percent of background data of your most used apps such as Facebook and Instagram. Other features include a removable 2,600 mAh battery, an 8 MP primary camera and a 5 MP front-facing snapper. Both cameras have an aperture of f/2.2.

What do you think of the Samsung Z4 so far? Would you consider buying it over the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8? Sound off in the comments section below.
