It has long been announced that the Project Scorpio will feature a truly 4K gaming experience, but it even gets more 4K with HEVC and VP 8 support for 4K streaming. Not only will the 6 teraflops monster ensure 4K gaming but also 4K encoding or decoding, and 4K Blu-ray playback, which is not seen on the PlayStation 4, the highest selling console at present.

Project Scorpio is 4K enabled not only for gaming but also for streaming, media consumption and content creation via the HEVC and VP9 support. It also employs the same HEVC codec for game recoding and streaming at 2160p 60 fps as compared to PS4's 720p at 30fps DVR. This means that a smoother and no-issues streaming of 4K HDR content is possible from popular video services like Netflix and Amazon Video. The 4K encoding produces the clearest imagery from game DVR streaming and recording, according to Hot Hardware.

It was already announced early this week that the Project Scorpio is designed for owners with 4K televisions though it also offers modest performance gains to those who owns the 1080p sets. The latest evolution of the Xbox One will utilize the Shader Model 6 as well as dynamic scaling to ensure that the system runs at optimal efficiency at 1080p. Microsoft is ensuring to have a winnable console to finally steal the rein from the high-selling PS4. Microsoft has not yet fully dominated the console sales race and it hopes to do that with the latest Xbox Scorpio set to arrive in Christmas 2017.

It will not be an easy road ahead for the upcoming Project Scorpio console given the huge fan base of the PlayStation platform as well as the many exclusive games attached to it. Microsoft needs to deliver something new and powerful to gamers without sacrificing on affordability. In the end, the real issue is not just focused on 4K enabled, but also on the kinds of 4K games and compatibility to 4K televisions, Slash Gear has learned. More details may be revealed on the upcoming console in E3 2017.
