A forced rollout of a mysterious driver for Windows 10, 8.1 and 7 was rolled out this week, apparently began causing problems. Reports also started pouring in that ads in Windows 10 have gotten out of control.

Windows 10 driver update causing problems

The driver update listed as "Microsoft - WPD - 2/22/2016 12:00:00 AM - 5.2.5326.4762" is apparently a driver for Windows 10 Mobile devices as reported in a Microsoft forum post. According to Forbes, Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 had no problem since the update was featured as an optional update that needs manual installation to proceed. No such provision was made for Windows 10, as all driver updates are installed automatically without warning.

Those using Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 who accidentally did install the update and encountered problems can simply roll back their systems to a previous restore point. No such luxury is accorded Windows 10 users, for the feature has to be manually enabled.

Microsoft was quick to address the problem and issued a response in Answers Forum to admit that an incorrect device driver was released for Windows 10, on March 8, 2017. Accordingly, the erroneous driver update was removed from Windows Update the same day.

The good of it is the Windows 10 creators Update is scheduled to be released on April 11. The highly sought after update is coveted due to its promised array of features and improvements it brings.

Windows 10 unwanted ads

Meanwhile, users have been complaining that Windows 10 has been some sort of an advertising vehicle for Microsoft in a variety of ways over the months since its release. The ads first appeared in the start menu, taskbar pop-ups, even on the lock screen. Recently, ads can now even be seen in File Explorer.

OS-wide pop-ups have even gone to the extent of dissuading users from using Google's Chrome and Mozilla's Firefox. Its resident browser Edge is all well, but contents have been reported to contain random news articles and advertorials. MSPoweruser reported that Windows 10 File Explorer is now advertising OneDrive.

The ads insert in the Windows 10 operating system has gotten out of hand that it now has ads in every area of the Windows interface except the desktop itself. One would think Windows 10 is now an extension of its Windows Store.With so many ads, it seems it no longer serve primarily as an OS but an advertising platform.
