The foldable Galaxy X phone is a highly-anticipated smartphone from Samsung but the latest update seemingly hints at another brand.

Samsung patents on the foldable display have been leaked and speculated. While the South Korean giant remains mum, the fans are putting their hopes high to see a foldable Galaxy X launched this year.

Samsung is said to unveil the first prototype of the foldable display to a select group. According to NDTV, Samsung might intend to sell the technology to other phonemakers.

Another evidence that can back the claim is that Samsung will start to manufacture the foldable display in Q4 2017 but the amount is limited. It is a fashion in the mobile industry that a phonemaker could supply another's brand component. LG, for example, has supplied OLED panel for Apple Watch, according to Forbes.

LG which is rumored to supply the OLED screen for iPhone 8, surprisingly does not have its own OLED smartphone. Just like LG with LG Displays, Samsung is one of the leading OLED display manufacturers that could sell its latest foldable technology to any vendor.

Samsung Foldable Galaxy X Trademarks

Just recently, numerous publications reported that Samsung filed Galaxy X trademarks on Feb. 24, namely Galaxy X1 and X1+. However, the detail is still scarce and there is no source to authorize if the two smartphones would be folding devices, Patently Apple reported.

Furthering the detail, the smartphone will reportedly flaunt a 5-inch AMOLED display. The same media also reported that Samsung will unveil Galaxy X alongside Galaxy Note 8 at Berlin's IFA electronics show in September.

The strange thing about the claim is that Samsung will launch revolutionary handsets at a trade show instead of hosting a special event. This wasn't happened to Galaxy Note 7 and it's safe to guess that Samsung could ready its foldable Galaxy X display and Galaxy Note 8 in 2018.
