Last week, Google announced that the company is rolling out Google Assistant to non-Pixel Android devices. Devices running Android Marshmallow and Nougat will soon receive an update.

Many are getting the update from Google, and as part of the new update, an interesting feature was added to Google Assistant. Users can now ask Google to read the most recent text message from a specific contact. Users can also have the option ask it to read all received messages.

Having Google Assistant read messages for you make it bring up five of the latest messages, for each one, Google Assistant will ask if you want to hear it or move on to the next. The ability to hear text messages and send them using your voice is new. However, according to Android Authority, the system does not know the difference between read from unread messages.

For Google Assistant to function on Marshmallow and Nougat devices, Google also specified so other requirements that should be met for Assistant's functionality. The device should at least have 1.5GB of memory and 720p screen or higher resolution.

Google Assistant will be initially rolled out to English user in the U.S., followed by English in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom. German will also follow with more language rollouts to be supported and released over the year.

To see if your device already received the update, Got your phone's Play Store and proceed to My Apps. There should be a listed update there for Play Services, if not, open the Beta tab and manually start Play Services update.

Make sure the Google app itself does not have any pending updates, According to c|net. Once you are sure you already have updated all your apps, it is now a waiting game when you will receive the update on your Android device.

Latest announcements indicated that Google has already started rolling out Google update to non-Pixel Android Marshmallow and Nougat devices in Canada, beginning today.
