On Tuesday, the 2018 Volvo XC60 rolled out at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Considering its hair-raising power, safety should really come first.

Given the success of its big brother, the XC90, expectations for the 2018 Volvo XC60 are high. Aside from a massive power capacity, it boasts a set of defensive features meant to save lives. Here is a quick review about everything under the hood of the new flagship car.

2018 Volvo XC60: Safest variant

The Verge reported that the 2018 Volvo XC60 is the company's safest product to date. It passed various crash tests, proving that its multi-safety technologies are working perfectly. The Swedish carmaker is known for strong-built vehicles, so if it says that the new variant is the safest, it means no joke.

Steer Assist, for instance, has been installed in the 2018 Volvo XC60. It automatically guides the driver around obstacles in front, especially when a collision is highly likely to happen. It can be used either through the Oncoming Lane Mitigation system or the Blind Spot Indication System. The former avoids head-on crashers while the other puts the car back to its original position when switching lanes are not possible.

Meanwhile, Pilot Assist will be offered as an option too. It works like Tesla's Autopilot system, which takes over steering, acceleration, and braking on "well-marked highways". The 2018 Volvo XC60 can run the Pilot Assist for speeds of up to 81mph. Other protective specs include City Safety, which is basically an auto brake technology.

Power preview: 2018 Volvo XC60

The 2018 Volvo XC60 has three powerful gas engine options. According to Slash Gear, it caters to the T5 (254hp), the turbocharged and supercharged T6 (320hp), plus the T8 plug-in hybrid (407hp). The last model boasts a 62mph sprint time in just 5.3 seconds.

On the other hand, the 2018 Volvo XC60 also gets a pair of diesel engines. The D4 offers 190hp while the D5 with PowerPulse sports 235hp. With these power options at hand, the XC60 competes with Audi Q5 and BMW X3.

There is no official statement about the retail price of the 2018 Volvo XC60. Nonetheless, it is expected to hit the market this April at Torslanda Plant in Sweden. For the record, the car's interior design patterns to the theme of XC90 and S90 models with huge vertical touchscreen infotainment system.
