Catching yet another feature from Snapchat, Instagram is now offering "geostickers" too.

These add-ons copied from Snapchat are currently live in two cities only - Jakarta ad New York. Meanwhile, the "geostickers" also act as location tags so viewers can tap on them and be taken to a page with more photos in that area. Instagram clarifies that the release of its "geostickers" is an early version, thus wider choices are coming soon.

Instagram "geostickers": Snapchat did it first

According to Engadget, Snapchat showcased the location-specific markers about eight months ago. With the recent update on Instagram, the photo-sharing app adopts the "geotickers" to complement images and videos shared online. Of course, IG Stories remain exclusive.

When people hit on the sticker button, they will see the location-specific option on top of the menu. Depending on the location, unique options appear for every particular landmark. Instagram and Snapchat "geostickers" take viewers to the map of a specific venue so they can browse images and clips from other users.

Other than Jakarta and New York, Instagram "geostickers" are still inaccessible to other cities. Do note that users need to update to the latest version of the application via App Store or Google Play. Well, Facebook and Instagram appear like they are not yet finished in taking more features from Snapchat.

Unlike Snapchat, Instagram lets users add as many as they want

Venturebeat reported that Instagram lets its users add more than one "geosticker" to a post, contrary to Snapchat. However, they need to adjust the sizing and the placement to fit the frame of the photo or video. Each sticker is known to match the vibe of the location it represents.

Instagram "geostickers" have distance limitations too. This is to avoid faking whereabouts as the app prohibits the use of the add-ons if the user is not in that particular place. Simply put, it restricts users from putting Eiffel Tower if they are in New York City. Snapchat unveiled its "geostickers" in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington DC, Honolulu, Londo, Sydney, São Paulo, Paris, and Riyadh.
