It seems like everyone is wrong when they assumed that AMD Ryzen is design for gaming. Recent benchmark reports suggest that AMD's newest CPU slacks at gaming but performs well in workstations. This gives rise to the speculations that AMD Ryzen is pre-designed for MacBook Pro 2017 which purportedly results to Intel's dethronement from Apple's kingdom.

Will Apple Choose AMD Ryzen Over Intel Kaby Lake?

The CPU battle between AMD and Intel is likely to bring the latter into the losing end because Apple is reportedly choosing AMD Ryzen chipsets for future Macs and will junk Intel Core i7 or the Kaby Lake. According to Architosh, there's a huge possibility that AMD's newest chipsets are pre-designed most especially for MacBook Pro 2017 because of its performance per watts compared to Intel's.

Even the reviews from major tech websites can attest to the claim that AMD Ryzen chips are made to focus on workstation tasks. PC Gamer said that Ryzen works best for video editors, Tomshardware praised Ryzen 7 1800X for handling professional and scientific workloads and Extremetech commended the extraordinary performance of Ryzen in 3D rendering, Seeking Alpha reported.

During Apple annual shareholder meeting, CEO Tim Cook revealed their plans of coming off with a fully-revamped MacBook Pro for this year to right their wrongs from the current version of the portable machine. For this reason, AMD Ryzen is deemed perfect for MacBook Pro 2017; not to mention its ability to handle various workstation tasks.

History of Ryzen's Name

Everyone is curious about why AMD does not named its newest chip after its architecture "Zen". According to PC World, AMD has encountered issues in securing the Zen's trademark because under U.S. Law, the name should be unique, strong and someone has already own the name for his business.

For this reason, AMD looked for another alternative such as horizon, removing the "ho" and they got "rizon" but Corporate VP for Marketing John Taylor said the name doesn't felt right. After careful consideration, the team came up with the name "Ryzen", with enso (single unbroken creative stroke that represents human creative spirit) in the logo that means perfection.
