Nokia struck it big when they re-introduced the iconic Nokia 3310 at the Mobile World Congress 2017. While the device is not expected to carry breathtaking specs, it remains to be seen if other Nokia phones will carry eye-catching specs. And from the mix of features most would want to see is the main camera of the phone.

Seeing how the built-in cameras on phones have become a gauge, Nokia has been known to offer Carl Zeiss technology in the past. Sadly, HMD Global tweeted that they are veering away from the lens technology which is likely not included in the acquisition from Microsoft as reported by Phone Arena. Aside from that, the same case holds true for the PureView imaging technology which was exclusively used on Lumia devices. The technology was not part of the deal and remains under the Redmond company’s umbrella.

With the camera feature of Nokia brand up in the air, the exclusion of the Carl Zeiss lens and PureView Imaging technology should not be taken as setbacks. There is a chance that Nokia could come up with a new imaging technology to ramp up the main camera feature. It may, however, be limited to high-end phones they plan to offer moving forward.

HMD Global broke the ice with the Nokia 3310 but more phones are expected to follow. The camera technology may not be that of an issue seeing the device is a budget-friendly device that costs roughly only $50. It is something aimed at developing countries meaning the low cost meant compromising some of the major phones.

A gauge on the future cameras from HMD Global could be the Nokia 6. It comes with a 16 MP main camera and 8 MP front-facing selfie-shooter which hardly impressed. Considering it was a mid-range priced device, the sample shots and sample videos shown by GSM Arena seems fair enough for its price.
